NewsWorld newsRyanairA report by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said the man was sucked out of the Ryanair plane after part of the engine broke off and smashed a window08:35, 14 Aug 2026Updated 08:51, 14 Aug 2026A man's head was sucked out of a Ryanair plane window after broken engine fragments smashed a cabin window, US investigators have said.‌The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said in a preliminary report that a fan blade in the engine came apart shortly after the plane departed Greece on July 10.‌Serbian national Ljubisa Karović's was left "seriously injured and in shock" after his head and right shoulder were sucked out of the window during the flight to Germany.‌He previously told how a deafening "explosion" rocked the plane and woke him from a nap before objects began flying through the air and out of the window.His wife, Svetlana Grković Maksimović, later said she and two other passengers desperately tried to hold him in place.‌The flight, from Thessaloniki to Memmingen, "experienced a No. 2 (right) engine fan-blade-out (FBO) failure during climb out," the NTSB said in its report."The crew elected to return to SKG [Thessaloniki International Airport] where they made an uneventful landing."Article continues belowThe NTSB took over the investigation in the days after the incident and said crew members had received a "high vibration" engine alert during the climb.They initially reduced power while carrying out checks, then continued upwards on autopilot after the vibrations eased.
