The film was a major box-office hit in Korea upon its 2007 release, drawing 8.4 million moviegoers.But its commercial success did not translate into critical acclaim. While some viewers and critics praised the film’s CGI, which was considered advanced by Korean filmmaking standards at the time, it was largely criticized for its weak screenplay and direction, as well as its awkward dialogue.Nearly two decades after its theatrical release, "Dragon Wars: D-War" was added to Netflix in select international markets on Aug. 6. The film is currently unavailable on Netflix in Korea.Its performance on the streaming platform comes as a growing number of Korean films are finding renewed interest among overseas audiences after their theatrical runs. "Humint," directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, offers another recent example of a Korean film gaining traction internationally after moving to Netflix.According to Netflix’s official Tudum site, "Humint" topped the global top 10 films non-English chart for the week of March 30 to April 5, recording 11 million views. Netflix calculates views by dividing a title’s total viewing hours by its runtime. The film reached the No. 1 spot just five days after its April 1 Netflix debut.The streaming success marked a turnaround for "Humint," which had underperformed at the Korean box office. The film drew approximately 1.98 million moviegoers before ending its theatrical run early, well below its estimated break-even point of around 4 million admissions.
