Electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft startup Joby is one of those startups that seems to have been around for ages, but it’s been hard to know if any of these eVTOL aircraft companies are going anywhere. We’re yet to find out if any of these eVTOL companies have a viable future financially. But apparently some of them still have a lot of money….

I was admittedly a bit shocked when I found out that Joby just bought another company for half a billion dollars. In this case, we’re actually talking about a defense technology company, Resonant Sciences. (Well, a defense company is one way to make a fortune, presuming it can land a nice big pipeline of contracts.)

“Electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) companies are focusing more on the military market as commercial development has taken longer than expected and defense spending has ramped up, driven by wars in Ukraine and the Middle East,” Reuters notes.
