Turkey will remove a special consumption tax on diesel until the end of August, with a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette on Thursday.
According to the decree, on September 1, the diesel tax will be reinstated, rising incrementally by 3 Turkish lira (€0.05) each month until it reaches 13.90 lira (€0.25) per liter on January 1, the same level as before the removal.
The decree also removes diesel from Turkey’s sliding-scale tax adjustment system, implemented to limit the impact of rising oil prices and high inflation on consumers.
However, the decree said gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will remain in the sliding-scale system until October 1, when the system is set to be abolished. [Reuters]
