The Premier League is back — and so Premier League predictions are back.Fresh from success in last year’s game, we expect The Athletic subscriber base to be confident of retaining their title this year. You may remember that last season our weekly predictions game was set up to pit one of our writers, the brave Oliver Kay, against a guest subscriber each week, plus an algorithm and six-year-old Wilfred.Everyone predicted the scoreline of each of the 10 Premier League matches each gameweek, with points awarded for correct guesses and a league table kept track of who was leading. As it turned out, it was a close run thing, but the game finished with you, the subscribers, topping the table, with Wilfred a close second and Oli not far behind in third. As many had hoped, the computer-based algorithm came in fourth. This season, we are looking to run the game again, albeit with a few tweaks:
Oli will now be joined by three other Athletic writers: Andrew Jones, Elias Burke and Duncan Alexander. They will alternate each week.
The predicting system will be different: everyone will just predict a Home WIN, Away WIN or DRAW.
There will be three points for a correct prediction and an added bonus of five points if you can get all 10 results correct in one week (good luck).
