On Thursday, Gene Munster said xAI's Grok is rapidly closing the gap with OpenAI and Anthropic.

The Deepwater Asset Management managing partner foresees the chatbot taking the lead by January, as Elon Musk-led Space Exploration Technologies Corp.'s (NASDAQ:SPCX) growing engineering data could further boost future models.

Gene Munster Says Grok Is Coming for OpenAI, Anthropic Munster took to X following the release of Grok 4.6, arguing that the latest model marks a major step forward for Musk’s AI ambitions.

"Elon just put OpenAI and Anthropic on notice," Munster said, pointing to Grok 4.6’s jump from eighth to fourth place on the Artificial Analysis leaderboard.

He added that he expects Grok to reach the top by January, driven by upcoming versions 4.7 and 5.0.
