Adani Group executives discussed nuclear and clean energy projects, mining and industrial investments with Odisha officials, including two proposed 3,000-MW power plants and an ₹80,000-crore coal-to-chemicals project.
Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd CEO Karan Adani on Thursday met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy CM KV Singh Deo and discussed the Adani Group’s ongoing and proposed projects in the state, including plans for setting up nuclear power projects.Accompanied by a team, Adani discussed avenues for industrial collaboration and infrastructure development with Majhi, with the meeting focusing on projects proposed by the Adani Group in Odisha, sources said.Focus on clean energy and nuclear power“During his meeting with Singh Deo, the deliberations focused on accelerating the deployment of clean energy infrastructure -- specifically Pumped Storage Plants (PSP), Solar Power generation, and Nuclear Power projects -- to fortify long-term energy security, grid reliability, and sustainable energy development goals in the state,” an official release issued by the government said.The Adani Group had earlier met Singh Deo and expressed interest in investing in the state’s energy sector.“In today’s meeting, they reiterated their intent to invest in Odisha’s clean energy sector, including the establishment of two power plants with a capacity of 3,000 MW each,” the statement said.Recognising the need for continuous, carbon-free baseload power, the discussions placed particular emphasis on renewable energy, it said.The Adani Group also invited Singh Deo to visit its renewable energy projects in other states.Odisha projects face review of approvals, land issuesDuring the meeting with Majhi, attended by senior state government officials, issues including approvals, land identification and acquisition, and ground-level challenges were discussed.“It was decided to set timeframes for each proposed project and sort out issues causing delays”, official sources said.The meeting also discussed the Adani Group’s upcoming projects in the state, including proposed bauxite mining, aluminium and power facilities.Adani Group proposes major mining and industrial projectsThe group has proposed an alumina refinery and captive power plant in Rayagada district, bauxite mining at Kutrumali in Rayagada district and Balada in Koraput district, and an aluminium smelter unit in Cuttack district.It has also proposed an integrated coal gasification and coal-to-chemicals plant at Bedabahal in Sundargarh district.The project has already been approved by a high-powered committee and envisages an investment of around Rs 80,000 crore.The company has also proposed expansion of its port at Dhamra and other projects in the state.Odisha government’s senior officers, including Development Commissioner Deoranjan Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Vishal Dev, and ACS (Housing & Urban Development) Usha Padhee were present at the meeting.Published on August 14, 2026
