Thailand is revising its draft of the Digital Platform Economy Act after concluding the European Union's regulatory model is too stringent for the country's digital economy.Digital Economy and Society (DES) Minister Chaichanok Chidchob said he told officials to adjust the draft, which is modelled after the EU's Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act, as the EU version is too strict for Thailand.
"Even the EU is revising its own regulations, so we need to find the right balance for our circumstances," he said.
The Thai draft aims to regulate digital service providers, strengthen consumer protection and promote fair competition in online markets.
The government previously planned to submit this draft law to the Council of State for legal review before seeking cabinet approval, then introducing it to parliament during the current legislative session, with next month the tentative target.
