Five-year-old Ayomide Omotoso made his national table tennis debut at the seventh Adegboyega Efunkoya U-15 National Table Tennis Tournament in Lagos on Thursday, becoming the youngest competitor at the three-day event, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Omotoso, who is the son of Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, competed against players several years older than him at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere.

Although he lost all his matches, the youngster remained excited about the experience and said he was determined to improve before his next competition.

“I am very happy playing because I love table tennis. My dad taught me the game. My opponents are far better than me, but I hope to keep training so I can play better next time,” he said.

The tournament, organised by the Efunkoya Sports Foundation in collaboration with the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, attracted over 130 players, comprising 82 boys and 54 girls.
