The political rift between Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and his predecessor, Gbenga Daniel, has deepened, with both camps trading fresh claims over political loyalty ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abiodun on Thursday accused Daniel of appearing to have moved away from the mainstream of the All Progressives Congress with a stylish support for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2027 governorship election, Ladi Adebutu.
Daniel’s loyalists, however, dismissed the claims, insisting that the former governor’s political family, to which Adebutu belongs, remained firmly behind him.
Abiodun, in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said he was advised against supporting Daniel to go to the Senate in 2023 because of concerns that he might eventually turn against him.
He reportedly stated this while receiving some members of Daniel’s political family and the late Buruji Kashamu’s political group into the mainstream of the APC in Abeokuta.
