The wall of the U.S. Embassy in Brasília was vandalized with anti-U.S. graffiti on Thursday (13). One of the phrases read, "The U.S. wages war and profits from death," written in both Portuguese and English.
Activists from the Landless Rural Workers' Movement (MST) and the Popular Youth Uprising held a demonstration at the site, where they burned an American flag. MST claimed responsibility for the act of vandalism.The groups said the goal was to denounce "the impacts of the U.S. government's imperialist policy." On social media, they described the action as an "intervention against the war industry and U.S. imperialist policy" and called for a world without war, exploitation or imperialism.
The U.S. Embassy issued a statement calling the acts "unacceptable" and said it was working with local authorities. The case is under investigation, and one person has already been arrested. Clothing and a notebook containing notes that allegedly indicated plans for the attack were seized.
