A devastating fire ripped through six neighbouring bungalows - completely destroying several homes.Around 20 people were evacuated after the huge blaze broke out and quickly spread yesterday afternoon. Residents of six bungalows in Newbridge, South Wales, were forced to flee and spent the night in a leisure centre.It comes as Britain faces one of its hottest days on record – with temperatures expected to hit 38C (100F). The Met Office has extended the area of its rare 15-hour amber 'extreme heat' warning, which came into force at 9am this morning.No-one is believed to have been injured in the Newbridge fire but drone pictures show the huge scale of the damage caused to both homes and cars on the street.Residents tried to put the fire out themselves but it was too severe. Local councillor Adrian Hussey said: 'The houses were absolutely gutted. Their cars were damaged too.'The cause of the blaze that broke out around 4pm is still unclear and under investigation. The impacted residents were transferred to a nearby hotel this morning.The local community has since been rallying around and a fundraising page has been set up to support them.Newbridge rugby club said it was opening up its facilities to help. It said: 'We are absolutely heartbroken to have seen the horrendous fire earlier this evening at Pantside and the devastation caused in such a short space of time.
