Northern Ireland is no stranger to people being burned out of their homes, but increasingly there are new targets. In the riots in Belfast in early June following a horrific knife attack, the mobs of masked men were not looking for their old sectarian enemies, but migrants or asylum seekers.
As with riots across the UK in recent years, it’s a complex picture of rage and resentment at changing communities and out-and-out racism, but this time underpinned by the still dangerous legacy of 30 years of conflict.
