MS Now’s Joe Scarborough tore into war-hungry Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth over reports that grave conditions on a U.S. aircraft carriers are driving some service members to try to jump overboard.Furious about accounts troops are going hungry as supplies struggle to make it to multiple vessels stationed in the Middle East, Scarborough said, “We have our sailors being treated like third-class citizens, treated like trash actually.”Adding in that munition stockpiles are said to be reaching dangerously low levels as the war with Iran drags into its seventh month, the former GOP congressman said he was floored Hegseth still even had a job.“This was abysmal planning, and any other secretary of defense would have been fired by now,” Scarborough said Thursday on “Morning Joe.” “I’m not sure why he’s still there.”The TV politico blamed the crisis on Hegseth’s petty crusade against diversity, saying, “This is what happens when you have a defense secretary that’s obsessed about the color of people’s skin, whether somebody is a man or a woman, testosterone levels, this obsession over DEI, and that’s all we ever hear about. And what we’re not hearing about is, well, the basics. The basics always start with readiness.”“Men and women of the United States military militarily ready to go into combat if called upon,” he went on. “And this is the exact opposite of what you do to make sure that they are prepared and ready to go, and this doesn’t have anything to do with toughness or this or that or the other.”Hegseth denied the appalling accounts while speaking to reporters during a visit to Panama on Thursday, claiming the reports “completely misrepresented” what was happening on destroyers like the USS Abraham Lincoln, USS Tripoli and more.“We make sure every ship, every crew, every captain has everything we can provide them at every single moment,” he said. “Some deployments are longer than others, and I have more respect and gratitude for those sailors than anybody. What they do in those high seas in those austere conditions with less port calls — it’s incredible.”
