Rugby league bosses in the UK are expected to reject a £30 million initial investment offer from the NRL but will listen to better offers in negotiations, sources have told The i Paper.
Rugby League Commercial (RLC) confirmed in a statement on Thursday that the NRL had submitted a first offer, which had been communicated to the Super League clubs, with “details of it remaining confidential”.
The i Paper understands the NRL has offered around £6 million per year, over five years, to own 50 per cent of RLC, the joint venture between the Rugby Football League (RFL) and Super League that controls the commercial, marketing, digital and major events rights for rugby league in the UK.
Under the proposal, the NRL would control all commercial rights to Super League, including television broadcasting.
It is believed Super League clubs were pleased to finally receive an official offer from the NRL, after 18 months of talks, speculation and deliberations, but were not overly impressed by the size of the investment.
