JOS — Plateau State Commissioner for Environment, Climate Change and Mineral Development, Hon. Peter Kanang Gwom, has condoled with the families of seven miners who died in a mining pit collapse at Gassa community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, August 12, 2026, while the victims were reportedly carrying out mining activities at the site.
Gwom, in a condolence message, described the incident as a painful loss and expressed sympathy to the bereaved families and the entire Gassa community.
He said the loss of lives in mining-related incidents remained a serious concern, stressing the need for stronger safety measures and regulatory compliance across mining communities in the state.
