HYDERABADThe Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has accused the Congress government of stopping the implementation of Rythu Bima, group life insurance scheme to landholding farmers, by not paying its premium with vengeance on former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.In a statement, former minister for agriculture and BRS leader S. Niranjan Reddy said on Thursday that the last date for payment of premium for Rythu Bima scheme was August 15 for its continuation, but there is no move to pay the premium. He stated that a total of 21,099 farmers’ families benefited with the scheme as a total of ₹5,909.85 crore claims were paid at the rate of ₹5 lakh per insured farmer who died, irrespective of the cause.He alleged that the government has made up its mind to discontinue Rythu Bima in the name of Intintiki Indiram Bima, though no guidelines have been issued so far for its implementation after announcing to implement it from June 2 this year and issuing newspaper and television advertisements by spending crores of rupees.Mr. Niranjan Reddy mentioned that there were instances of several landless families purchasing farm land to benefit from Rythu Bima scheme.
