Germany should step up pressure on Russia in response to Russian hybrid threats, including by launching training for Ukrainian troops on the use of Taurus missiles and imposing new sanctions on Russia.
Roderich Kiesewetter, a Bundestag member from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
"We should have closed the Russian House long ago, summoned the ambassador if there was evidence, and perhaps even expelled the country's ambassador. That should be considered. Then, quite clearly, the shadow fleet must be stopped, sanctions must be tightened, and Taurus training must begin. That would give the federal chancellor an instrument at his disposal to decide when he wants to deliver Taurus missiles," Kiesewetter said.
He stressed that Germany "finally needs to get this done." "We should have done this two or three years ago. The federal chancellor himself promised it and is not doing it," the lawmaker added.
Kiesewetter noted that supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine would improve its position by providing additional capabilities to strike military targets, including the ability to precisely hit bunkers, underground production facilities and command posts. "Ukraine would then be in a better position," he said.
