On Wednesday 12 August 2026, Vice President Edmand “Edman” Lara filed a criminal complaint in La Paz against Economy Minister José Gabriel Espinoza.
The complaint alleges breach of official duties, “falsedad ideológica” (ideological falsehood), use of a falsified document and illicit enrichment.
At the center is an Audi Q4 e-tron that Espinoza says cost BOB 350,000 (about US$30,000) but was notarized at just BOB 50,000 (about US$4,300).
In a June asset declaration, Espinoza reported holdings of BOB 9,367 (about US$805) and did not list the car.
