Brad Pitt, the famed actor and film producer, recently shared that he experienced suicidal thoughts stemming from "family stuff" in an interview with Esquire, as part of a longer conversation about mental health, loss, divorce, and sobriety.

Pitt, a self-described "congenital optimist," noted that he'd once felt suicidal.

"And in that one little period, I just thought -- I just couldn't -- just didn't see a way out. The pain was so oppressive that -- I wasn't going to act on this, but I could feel -- I could feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head, and it felt like relief," he said.

Pitt also told Esquire that he's drinking again in a "more restrained manner" after 7 years of sobriety.
