US Secretary of State Marco Rubio joked that if he had followed a strict keto diet while serving in his current role, he might have told President Donald Trump, “Mr President, we must bomb Paraguay,” blaming his sudden aggression on going without sugar and carbohydrates. He revealed just how badly a strict keto diet affected him, joking that going without sugar and carbohydrates made him so angry. The unusual confession came as Marco Rubio discussed his experience with extreme diets during an interview with Katie Miller, while his wife, Jeanette Rubio, spilled the beans on how much he loves Pop-Tarts, sweets and fast food.ALSO READ: Canadians may soon see thunderstorms and tornadoes differentlyRubio says keto left him ‘near-psychotic’Rubio said he tried a keto diet around four or five years ago, but the experience was far from enjoyable. “And you just eat all this protein, and so you go through this massive withdrawal from sugar and carbohydrates for the first 72 hours. Typically weekends are just a little slower, obviously but — and then the president has an insane work schedule. Like, he works every day, all day. You guys know that, too. So he doesn’t really have, like, days off or vacation time. There is really no slow time when it comes to national, international affairs,” Rubio told Miller. He said some mornings can start particularly early, with foreign leader calls sometimes beginning around 7 a.m.“So no day is typical, but generally speaking, if I had to plan a day, I would start — I start here at the State Department in the mornings and then try to be over at the White House before or shortly after noon and when the president really gets humming. And then obviously, or sometimes in the mornings he does a lot of foreign leader calls, so I’m on a lot of those calls in the morning. Those are sometimes as early as 7 a.m.,” he added.
