The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has received an interim speed certificate from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) for the new rolling stock on the Pink Line, marking another important milestone in the project's progress.According to the BMRCL, the certificate was issued on Wednesday after the successful completion of oscillation and emergency brake distance trials conducted on the elevated stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere. The trials were carried out to evaluate the performance and safety of the new metro trains supplied by BEML Ltd. The successful completion of these tests and the subsequent certification by the RDSO are expected to accelerate the next stages of the approval process. The BMRCL stated that the interim speed certificate would facilitate the process of obtaining approval from the Railway Board for the induction of the new rolling stock.Following the Railway Board's sanction, the corporation will seek inspection and authorisation from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), a mandatory requirement before commencing passenger services. The elevated section of the Pink Line from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere is expected to be operational by August end or September 2026. The underground stretch from Tavarekere to Nagawara is slated for completion by March 2027.The Pink Line, a 21.3-km corridor connecting Kalena Agrahara in the south to Nagawara in the north, is a crucial metro stretch in the city. Of the total length, 13.8 km runs underground, linking key central areas such as Dairy Circle, M.G. Road, Shivajinagar and Tannery Road, while 7.5 km is elevated.
