Sudan's Rapid Support Forces have captured Al Kurmuk, a strategic southern town near the Ethiopian and South Sudanese borders.

Al Kurmuk is the second town seized in Blue Nile State this week, signalling a concerted RSF push to expel the Sudanese Armed Forces from the region.

The town's proximity to the Roseires Dam — a key national power source — and the Blue Nile state capital makes its capture strategically significant.

Sudan's civil war, now in its fourth year, has killed tens of thousands and displaced approximately 14 million people since fighting erupted in April 2023.
