Apple $AAPL has been negotiating deals with news publishers to give its AI-powered Siri voice assistant access to current events and information, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The company has reached out to publishers in recent months to discuss multiyear licensing arrangements. Under the proposed structure, Apple would pay partner publishers each time their content is used, rather than through a fixed licensing fee — a departure from standard industry practice. The company has discussed a budget of up to nine figures for those payments, according to the Journal.
