Former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
The corruption trial against former Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has been postponed allowing her to file an application seeking her discharge at the end of the State’s case.
The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria postponed the matter at the request of Mapisa-Nqakula’s defence team to allow her to receive the transcribed court records needed to prepare the application.
The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) spokesperson Henry Mamothame said Mapisa-Nqakula placed it on record in court that she intends to apply for a discharge.
Mamothame said the State has closed its case and will now await the accused’s heads of argument before preparing its response to the application.
