Ambulance drivers should make judicious use of sirens while on the move, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) H.N. Mithun, in Mangaluru on Thursday.Speaking at the ‘Ambulance Awareness Rally’ organised jointly by KMC Hospital, Mangaluru, and the Mangaluru City Police, Mr. Mithun said personnel in ambulances were among the first responders in health emergencies. “Every life matters. The siren rings differently when going to an emergency location, transporting critical patients to hospitals, or taking patients back to their houses,” he said, adding: “Ambulance drivers should make judicious and responsible use of sirens, which will not make people doubt their use.”The DCP said the Mangaluru City Police had been making motorists aware of the need to give way to ambulances when the siren is on. It was good to see a large number of college students involved in critical care services, he added.KMC Hospital Cluster Head for Emergency Medicine Jeedhu Radhakrishnan said the hospital had trained over 12,500 students in first aid, which had helped save the lives of over 7,500 people.Mr. Mithun flagged off the rally, in which a fleet of ambulances from KMC Hospital went around the city.
