The former Liberty X popstar has been extremely open over the years about her battle with alcohol and drugs, before she completely turned her life around.‌The singer, who this year is celebrating five years sober, revealed that it was former glamour model Katie who pushed for her to seek help. Price, 48, has also spoken openly about her own battles, which saw her undergo a stint in rehab six years ago.‌Both Michelle, 47, and Katie met on the party scene back in the Noughties at the height of their fame and have maintained a close friendship. Now, the singer has explained that it was one night at a party that she was encouraged to turn her life around.‌"I arranged to have a party with Katie Price at my friend's house," she said. Speaking on the On The Mend podcast. Michelle went on to add: "Carrying on the party wherever I could be, out of self, out of house."Somewhere else that somebody's done what I did, that's where I would try and be. And when I got there, um, she was sober, and she wasn't drinking. I was like, 'What the f**k?' You know?‌"How dare you? And she came at me with like this binder from the Priory, and she asked me these questions: 'Do you feel like this?' And I'm like, 'What? What are you on about?'"She continued: "And I was like, 'Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.' And she's like, 'You need to go... You need to go to rehab.' I'm like, 'No, I'm not going to rehab. Hugh [Michelle's husband] tried it a couple of years ago, I'm not doing it, I'm not doing it.'"She went outside, she talked to Hugh. I'm literally in my friend's bedroom, and I'm downing vodka, and I don't quite know what's happening outside the door. I just remember thinking, 'She's sober, and how did she do it?' And that tiny little thought of... 'What did you do?'‌"That was enough for me to say, 'I think I need it'." In 2020, doctors warned her she was close to death as her liver was failing after years of excessive drinking.Michelle reported drinking two bottles of wine and a bottle of vodka at the height of her struggles, which led to her being hospitalised in 2021. She previously told OK! Magazine: "My poor body has been through a lot. I have a newfound respect for it. I get my sleep, and Hugh and I own a gym and work out together quite a bit."She is also keen to show others that recovery is possible. "I'm living proof you can do it — even from rock bottom," Michelle said proudly. While she's celebrating five years of being sober, Michelle knows she can't take anything for granted.
