The US war in Iran has depleted Washington stockpiles of Patriots

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday that Kyiv could get through the winter if the US supplied 5% of its Patriot missiles, as Russia steps up its ballistic missile attacks.

Russia has recently been firing barrages at Kyiv, leading to July being the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since April 2022.

In recent weeks, the Ukrainian president has increased calls to secure additional Patriot missiles from partner countries by taking over existing contracts. He has also urged Europe to boost the development of its own anti-ballistic missile systems, arguing that US production alone can no longer meet demand.

In an interview with CNN, Zelenskyy said if the US “sell us 5%, we will go through the winter and save people’s lives. If they can sell us 10%, we will destroy all the Russians’ ballistic missiles. I have 1%.”
