Buildings near a train station in the southern state of Bavaria are being evacuated as a precaution after police said that an object found on the tracks could contain explosives.
Emergency crews were clearing directly affected buildings while Federal Police specialists continued examining the object, Middle Franconia police said.
A technician discovered the suspicious item in the track bed at the entrance to the station in the town of Treuchtlingen.
Specialists have already X-rayed the object, but police said further examinations were needed because the possibility of an explosive hazard could not yet be ruled out.
