Four out of five renter communities near transit developments examined in a new study faced eviction application rates higher than Toronto’s average, including two that had rates double the city figures.

From 2010 to 2023, Toronto’s rental apartment market had an average eviction filing rate of about five applications per 100 units. However, during that time, the Weston and Jane—Finch communities had nearly 10 applications per 100 units, according to the report “Navigating Transformation: The Future of Rental Housing in an Era of Transit Investment.”
