At the Wellness Collective Summit, health experts and government officials challenge South Africans to adopt healthier lifestyles and rethink their everyday habits to combat chronic diseases
Health experts and government officials have called for a stronger focus on prevention and healthier lifestyle choices as chronic diseases continue to place pressure on South Africa’s healthcare system.
The call was made at the Wellness Collective Summit, hosted by WomenCan at Pere House on Tuesday, bringing together more than 250 people to discuss health, wellbeing and harm reduction.
The summit focused on how South Africans can make more informed choices around their health, while also addressing the risks associated with harmful substances and other lifestyle factors.
Specialist consultant dietician Mbali Mapholi said everyday habits, including smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, obesity and the pressures of work, were contributing to the growing burden of chronic disease.
