Continuing with its crackdown, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India on Thursday said that it has suspended the license of Naryani Foods & Beverages, Zaiqaa Organixs Pvt Ltd and A B Enterprise for non-compliance with the FSS Act. The food safety regulator also said that it continues its “vigilant enforcement” against food safety violations.
In a social media post, FSSAI said that it has suspended the license of Narayani Foods and Beverages, Orissa, with immediate effect over serious food safety violations and grossly unhygienic processing conditions besides severe non-compliance with mandatory sanitary and hygienic requirements. Outlining issues such as unsatisfactory cleaning and sanitation of the premises and equipment, contamination of tap water area with algae and rust and corrosion of equipment , the food safety regulator added that the overall compliance score of the unit was recorded at 25% (20/80), corresponding to the “Non-Compliance” category and demonstrating significant deficiencies in the food safety management system.
In the case of Zaiqaa Organixs Pvt Ltd, the Authority noted the food was being manufactured, packed and stored under unhygienic conditions and the overall cleaning and sanitation of the premises were found to be unsatisfactory. “Storage facilities did not permit adequate maintenance and cleaning or prevent pest access and accumulation. Raw materials and finished goods were placed in unhygienic conditions without proper segregation. Rust and corrosion were observed on processing equipment,” it noted. It also flagged the presence of physical, chemical and biological hazards in food to an extent that poses serious public-health risks among other violations. “The FSSAI License granted to M/s Zaiqaa Organixs (OPC) Private Limited has been suspended forthwith in the interest of public health in respect of all food business activities for which the license has been granted, until further orders,” it added in its post.
