Terrill / Associated PressAug. 13, 2026 Updated 1:29 am EDTLOS ANGELES — First baseman Freddie Freeman was removed from Wednesday’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Royals after falling down the dugout steps while attempting to catch a fly ball in foul territory.The incident happened in the top of the eighth inning, after Royals outfielder Isaac Collins popped up a 2-1 fastball from reliever Landon Knack. Freeman appeared to have a read on the ball and drifted into foul territory to make the catch, but it carried past the field of play. Freeman, who continued to track the ball, did not realize his proximity to the dugout and fell, face-first, down several steps before coming to a rest.The Dodgers’ training staff immediately rushed across the field, while several members of the Royals also attended to Freeman. He was slow to get up, but ultimately returned to the field. However, pinch hitter Tommy Edman replaced Freeman in the bottom of the eighth.The Dodgers went on to beat the Royals 4-2 and complete the three-game sweep.This story will be updated.
