One NFL advance scout has delivered a harsh verdict on the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, while other evaluators have raised concerns about his declining production. The longtime Chiefs star recorded 76 receptions, his lowest total since 2015, while finishing with 851 receiving yards. His touchdown numbers have also fallen sharply, with only 13 scores combined across the past three seasons.His efficiency has raised further questions. According to Pro Football Focus tracking cited in the report, Kelce's drop rate reached 7.8 percent in 2025, nearly twice his career average. Despite running the fourth-most routes of his career, he struggled to produce at the level fans had become accustomed to seeing.One NFL advance scout offered perhaps the most severe assessment of all.“Kelce is done. That’s over. What you saw last year – that’s what he is,” one NFL advance scout said, as quoted by insider Jason La Canfora in a report published Tuesday.The statement is striking because Kelce has spent much of his career making such predictions look foolish. He has been one of the NFL's most productive tight ends and a central part of Kansas City's offensive success.But age is now an unavoidable part of the conversation. Kelce is 36, and the physical demands of playing tight end at the highest level become harder to ignore with every season.Former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum also questioned whether he would have brought Kelce back, arguing that teams should focus on future production rather than paying players for past achievements.At the same time, not everyone believes Kelce is finished.ESPN's latest tight end rankings moved him from fifth to 10th, but one NFC personnel evaluator still described him as “the ageless wonder at the position.”Chiefs coach Andy Reid remains confident in Travis KelceThe skepticism surrounding Kelce extends beyond his statistics. Some analysts have questioned whether his conditioning has changed, while others have pointed to the broader state of Kansas City's offense.Brian Baldinger offered a blunt assessment of the Chiefs' passing attack.“I don’t think they’re a great offense, Jason, I really don’t,” Baldinger told La Canfora. “They don’t look like it to me. They haven’t done enough,” according to La Canfora.That places additional pressure on Kelce. With Patrick Mahomes returning from knee surgery and Kansas City working with an evolving receiving group, the veteran tight end could remain an important safety valve.Chiefs coach Andy Reid, however, has rejected concerns about Kelce's physical condition.“He came back in good shape. Everybody thought he was going to come back with this ‘dad bod’ that I heard about. I’m going, ‘This guy looks the same as he’s always looked,'” Reid said at training camp, according to CBS Sports coverage.Former MVP Rich Gannon also offered a more balanced view, suggesting Reid will manage Kelce's workload carefully.“Andy will be honest and he’ll address those concerns,” Gannon said, as quoted by La Canfora. “He’ll find a way to get it fixed in every room. With Kelce, he’ll manage that workload and be careful with him.”The coming season should provide the clearest answer. Kelce does not need to recreate his best statistical years to remain valuable, but Kansas City will need him to make a meaningful impact.For now, the NFL remains divided. One scout believes Kelce is finished. Reid sees a player who still looks ready. The truth will ultimately be decided on the field.
