The Federal Government has announced plans to establish 41 university innovation hubs across tertiary institutions in a bid to transition Nigeria from a resource-based economy into a knowledge-driven economy.

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, following a meeting with the United Nations Development Programme and seven university vice-chancellors regarding the UNDP Innovation Hub.

Alausa explained that the UniPods were designed to move research and innovation beyond academic publications and translate discoveries into commercial enterprise, job creation, and measurable economic impact.

He noted that the initiative aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to build a $1tn economy, stressing that education, technology, and research are critical drivers for achieving the target.
