Details about the 2026-27 NBA season are starting to come out in preparation for the full schedule release on Thursday afternoon. They've announced the Christmas Day games, the key games of opening week, and the NBA Cup Group Play schedule. We now have the full Presidents' Day lineup, another one of the big marks of the regular season, new for this season, and the Dallas Mavericks will be featured as part of a quadruple-header on NBC/Peacock/NBCSN. The Mavericks will host LeBron James on his new team, the Philadelphia 76ers, on Presidents' Day at 1:30 p.m. CST on NBC/Peacock. An NBC Sports quadrupleheader will highlight the NBA schedule on Presidents' Day (Monday, Feb. 15). 'They also added Dean Wade, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Ariel Hukporti in free agency, and drafted Labaron Philon Jr., one of my favorite players in the draft. Pairing that with a ready-made star in Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe entering his second season, and a hopefully healthier Joel Embiid could have the 76ers marked as title favorites. The rest of the Presidents' Day schedule will have the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Charlotte Hornets at 11 a.m. CST, the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat at 4 p.m. CST, and the Indiana Pacers and the Golden State Warriors at 6:30 p.m. CST. It's an interesting slate of games, including LaMelo Ball's first game back in Charlotte, a battle between Victor Wembanyama and Giannis Antetokounmpo, and a hopefully healthy Indiana Pacers team regaining their form against Stephen Curry and the aging Golden State Warriors. There were rumors that James wanted the Mavs to trade Irving to a team like the Cleveland Cavaliers while he was deciding where to sign. In the end, Irving made it known he was happy in Dallas, and barring that state of mind changing before the trade deadline, it would give the first matchup between Irving and James since February of 2025, which was also the first matchup between the teams after the Luka Doncic trade. While James was going through free agency, his agent, Rich Paul, had a whiteboard of about 10 teams that they were considering, and the Mavericks were on that board, also listing new team president Masai Ujiri as a reason to consider Dallas.
