If you’ve ever slouched in your desk chair and then later writhed in pain, you already know the physical effects of poor posture. Well, a recent HuffPost Life story shared new research examining the behavioral and even psychological effects that come from having good posture. While playing a virtual game, the study found that participants using an adjustable tablet stand performed better and felt better than participants who played hunched over a flat tablet. If you want to try it for yourself, we spotted a highly rated, highly versatile holder that reviewers credit for easing neck pain and making daily tech use “so much easier.” And it’s currently under $10 in black and pink.

Published in the British Journal of Psychology, the study found that participants who sat up straight reported “more positive emotions” and even made “smarter, more effective decisions during a risk-taking task.”

While the effects were subtle (and phone stands certainly aren’t a magic cure-all), the research seemed to indicate that having better posture may help with better decision-making, in addition to taking pressure off your back, shoulders and neck. So if you find yourself scrunched over your phone or tablet during work, workouts, cooking, video chatting or scrolling TikTok, a handy phone stand may have some serious positive effects.
