WASHINGTON — L3Harris opened a new maritime production facility in Providence, R.I., today to support the production of undersea training systems for the US Navy and allies, according to the firm.
The 50,000-square-foot facility at ProvPort is a $6 million investment that aims to leverage local partnership to provide “additional jobs” to those in the community, L3Harris said in a press release today.
“The demand for undersea training and readiness has never been greater, and this facility ensures we are positioned to meet that demand with the speed and scale our customers require,” Nino DiCosmo, president of Maritime, Space and Mission Systems at L3Harris, said in a statement. “ProvPort gives us a strategic advantage with its prime location and access to a highly skilled maritime workforce, and we are proud to deepen our commitment to Rhode Island.”
L3Harris has kept a longstanding presence in Rhode Island, and initially opened a facility in Ashaway in 1991 focused on critical undersea sensor systems and military sonar capabilities for the US Navy.
