New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Wednesday referred the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, to a 31-member JPC, with the government opting for wider scrutiny amid a united Opposition's demand for the bill's withdrawal. The decision followed a heated face-off in the House, with Opposition MPs alleging that the proposed law targets minorities and NGOs, while parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju dismissed the charge as "false" and challenged the Opposition to identify a single provision that discriminates against minorities. "I challenge Akhileshji to point out one provision that is against minorities. Lies are being spread in the country," Rijiju said.
