Egypt has officially condemned Colombia's decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
This strong diplomatic response comes after the South American nation announced a major shift in its foreign policy, siding with Israel on a long-contested territorial issue.
The Golan Heights is an area located in southwest Syria.
In 1967, during a war, Israeli forces took control of the land, and in 1981, they officially claimed it as their own.
While Israel lay claim to the area, the United Nations and most other countries say the land is still occupied Syrian territory.
