New Delhi, BJP president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday alleged that the Congress and other opposition parties are running away from a discussion in Parliament on the student protests because they are "afraid" of facing Home Minister Amit Shah. The home minister has traversed a long political journey from the streets to the House and the entire country knows that when he speaks in the House armed with facts, the opposition is left "speechless by his arguments", Nabin said."It is out of this very fear that the opposition kept shifting the goalposts and evading the discussion throughout the session," the BJP chief said in a post on X in Hindi.Hitting out at Rahul Gandhi, Nabin, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, alleged that throughout the Monsoon session of Parliament, the attitude of the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha and the entire opposition has exposed their "anarchic mindset and anti-democratic thinking".He said the session is drawing to a close, yet the opposition parties are not willing to engage in a "serious discussion on any issue".You Might Also Like:"Initially, they demanded a discussion on issues concerning the youth. However, when the Modi government became fully prepared for it, the opposition backed out, claiming they did not want to hold any discussion at all. This clearly demonstrates that the opposition is neither earnest nor serious about the issues at hand," the BJP president said."The truth is that the opposition is running away from discussion because they are afraid of facing the home minister," he said.Nabin also slammed Congress for its "irresponsible" conduct during the session and slammed Gandhi, alleging that he has not just brought "disgrace" to the office of the LoP that he holds but also caused a "significant decline" in the decorum and dignity of the House with his "repeated use of undignified language, arrogance and a vacillating, irresponsible attitude"."Parliament is the sacred temple of democracy where the country's direction is determined through meaningful discussions on issues concerning the public. However, during this Monsoon session, the irresponsible Congress has merely diverted the entire opposition from the real issues and misled them," he said. You Might Also Like:Nabin said that for many new MPs, it was their first session in Parliament but the opposition presented a "truly shameful" image of the country's democracy to these new lawmakers by creating ruckus in the House."Due to this obstinate attitude, the country was deprived of the Question Hour, and crucial issues concerning the people could not even be discussed in this temple of democracy," he added. The government's efforts for a debate on the students' agitation in the Lok Sabha on the penultimate day of the Monsoon session came to nought with the opposition rejecting Home Minister Shah's proposal for a two-day discussion on the NEET paper leaks and other issues followed by a reply from him.The fast-paced developments, which finally ended with the House being adjourned for the day, kicked off with Shah first daring the opposition to submit a formal letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for a debate. The home minister said he would attend the entire proceedings to address all questions if the discussion begins on Wednesday. It was now up to the opposition to decide whether they want to take part in the debate or create turmoil in Parliament, the home minister told reporters in the Parliament House complex minutes after the proceedings of the House began.Shah also urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to consult the opposition for a debate on students' protests over the NEET paper-leak issue and said he is ready to answer all questions in the House. In a letter to the speaker, the home minister said dialogue and discussions are the only ways to find solutions in a democracy and he has full faith in democracy and democratic institutions.
