Ride-hailing platform Uber has expanded its footprint to 100 more cities, taking its presence to 225 cities across the country, as competition in the bike-taxi segment intensifies.The company plans to deepen its presence in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, where rivals are also looking to expand. Recently, Rapido raised $240 million, led by Prosus, with participation from WestBridge Capital, Accel and other investors. The funding will be used largely to expand its presence in tier-2 and other markets beyond the major cities, the company said.Uber, one of the largest ride-hailing players in the country, now sees Rapido as its biggest competitor in India. The company has also infused ₹3,000 crore into its India operations, recently.From Jammu in the north to Tirunelveli in the south, and Silchar in the east to Jamnagar in the west, Uber will begin by launching Uber Bike operations across the new cities, providing an affordable option for everyday journeys and first- and last-mile connectivity. The expansion spans 18 states and one Union Territory, significantly deepening Uber’s presence beyond large Indian cities.The expansion builds on the growing role of two-wheelers in India’s everyday mobility.Published on August 12, 2026
