Brig Girish Upadhya, Commandant of Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre, joined `Tiranga on Wheels’, a cycle rally by young riders to the historic Yellur fort in Belagavi on Wednesday.The rally was organised as part of the initiatives to celebrate the spirit of Independence Day. The Commandant flagged off the 20-km rally.Enthusiastic students, accompanied by teachers, participated voluntarily from Rashtriya Military School, Army Public School, PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 and Cantonment Board School, further strengthening the bond between the armed forces and the younger generation.The enthusiastic response reflected a keen interest in fostering patriotism, fitness, discipline and responsible citizenship among young minds. Officers, JCOs and ORs of The MARATHA LIRC joined the students on the ride, accompanying and encouraging them throughout the rally.With the support of The MARATHA LIRC, the rally offered the youngsters an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of freedom while experiencing the rich heritage of historic Yellur Fort.The ‘Tiranga on Wheels’ brought together the armed forces, educational institutions and the community, to lead to the celebrations marking 80 years of India’s Independence, said a release.
