The football club says it is investigating an incident during a home match after witnesses said a child was targeted because of her skin colour.
Football club Spartak Trnava is investigating an alleged racist incident involving a 10-year-old girl during a home match against Dukla Banská Bystrica.
The incident allegedly happened on Saturday, 8 August, in the kotol, the stadium section occupied by Spartak’s most vocal supporters. According to witness accounts reported by the regional news site Trnavak.sk, a family was confronted by several people and the girl was forced to leave the section because of her skin colour.
The exact circumstances have not been independently confirmed. Spartak, one of Slovakia’s biggest football clubs, said it learned about the incident on Monday but has not provided details about what happened or who was involved.
“We are very sorry that the incident occurred,” the club said, adding that it “unequivocally condemns” such behaviour. “It has no place in football or in society.”
