Allies say they stand "united and resolute" to defend NATO territory

NATO allies met on Wednesday and condemned Russia for breaches of Poland’s and Romania’s airspace as well as repeated drone incidents across the alliance.

“NATO Allies made clear that they stand united and resolute in the defence of Allied territory. They commended the swift actions of NATO and national authorities in responding decisively to the events,” allies said in a statement.

The Wednesday morning meeting came after a new wave of airspace violations across Europe in recent weeks, testing the bloc’s ability to mitigate Russian hybrid warfare.

At the start of the month, an explosive-laden drone was found directly next to a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft at the Leipzig/Halle Airport, prompting the German airport to boost security measures.
