The Pixel Watch 5 might offer a much more robust experience than the display-less Fitbit Air that Google launched earlier this year, but that doesn’t mean the smartwatch team isn’t pulling from the Air’s playbook. Alongside all of the standard options for the Pixel Watch 5, Google is also launching a special Steph Curry-branded variant for those of us focused on athletics over all else.
This year’s Pixel Watch 5 includes the option to upgrade to the “Stephen Curry Special Edition” band, marking yet another expansion of the partnership between Google and the NBA star. The band itself looks awfully similar to the one offered on the Fitbit Air, pairing recycled polyester yarns and HNBR with a waterproof coating to make it sweat-resistant without reducing comfort. The inside of the band also features a “raised interior print for increased airflow,” which should help dry sweat before it risks irritation along your wrist.
There are a couple of differences between this and the Fitbit Air’s Curry-branded band. For starters, this Pixel Watch 5 edition attaches via stainless steel lugs that sound a little more rugged than Google’s tracker. Likewise, thanks to the addition of an actual display on the Pixel Watch, this Steph Curry edition includes an exclusive watch face you won’t be able to get on any of Google’s other wearables. The orange-on-gray colorway of the band, however, stays the same.
