A Reddit user claimed to have bought the non-functional prototype for $200 on OfferUp before the post was removed
Microsoft $MSFT's Xbox Elite Series 3 controller prototype surfaced on Reddit $RDDT on Tuesday, with photos showing a previously undisclosed built-in screen and other new features — before the post was taken down.
A user in the r/Controller subreddit claimed to have purchased the device for $200 on OfferUp, an online reseller marketplace, according to The Verge. The original post disappeared shortly after, but The Verge's Tom Warren saved and republished the images before they were lost. Markings on both the controller and its detachable 5.8 watt-hour battery read "NOT FOR SALE," and the regulatory fields are filled with placeholder values rather than official ID numbers.
The most notable new feature visible in the photos is a small built-in screen positioned below the controller's USB-C charging port. According to Thurrott, the screen appears to display a pairing interface with a Pair button that lets users switch between a local console connection and Xbox Cloud Gaming servers — a mode that would connect the controller directly to Microsoft's cloud infrastructure. One photo shows what appears to be the Xbox Cloud Gaming loading screen, and another displays a shortened URL linking to a Microsoft webpage.
