A massive fire has erupted in London with around 100 firefighters tackling the blaze.

Images show thick black smoke rising into the air from the fire on Ripple Road, Barking - and it is visible from miles away.

A statement from London Fire Brigade reads: "Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters have been called to a fire on Ripple Road in Barking.

"The Brigade's Control Office took the first of 15 calls at 1247 and mobilised crews from Barking, Dagenham, Ilford and other surrounding fire stations to the scene. The cause is not known at this stage."

Fire crews say that the blaze is at a two-storey building with 32m turntable ladders being used to help tackle it.
