The Border Management Authority says 89,936 people had been repatriated by August 7, while border operations also resulted in 760 arrests and nearly 10,000 deportations.
The Border Management Authority (BMA) says it intercepted 4,229 people without documents attempting to enter South Africa illegally between April 1 and July 31, as it intensified operations along vulnerable sections of the country's borders.
BMA Commissioner Michael Masiapato told Parliament's Home Affairs committee on Tuesday that most of those intercepted were found along the northern corridor bordering Zimbabwe, followed by the borders with Lesotho and Mozambique.
The interceptions formed part of 318 multidisciplinary operations conducted by the BMA during the period, including operations outside formal ports of entry.
Masiapato said the operations included static roadblocks along major corridors to intercept people who had bypassed formal border controls.
