ATLANTA — It’ll be tough, but not impossible, for Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson to match his career-high of 54 home runs from 2023. But whether he eclipses that total, manager Walt Weiss believes this is the best version of Olson since the slugger arrived in Atlanta.“He’s a better all-around hitter this year,” Weiss said. “Just using the whole field and hitting a lot of doubles and … putting together really good at-bats, drawing walks. I just think he’s more of a complete hitter now than even he was in ’23.”Olson’s two-run shot off a slider from right-hander Chayce McDermott in Tuesday night’s 4-0 home win over the New York Mets was his 35th of the season. He’s now tied with Kyle Schwarber, Yordan Alvarez and Junior Caminero for the major-league lead. The ball sailed 423 feet into right field’s Chop House with a 109.3 mph exit velocity, giving Olson his 56th hit with an exit velocity of 105 mph or greater, the fifth most in MLB.
